Barbery Partridge is a 60ft ex-hire narrowboat built by ABC Boats and converted to a live-aboard by me.
In July 2019 she was blacked, including the base plate, at a cost of over £2k.
Surveys from July 2019 and February 2020 show hull is 10x6x4 and in good structural condition but with extensive pitting on the bottom and sides. Max 6mm on bottom and max 3mm on sides.
First survey suggested pitting may be aggravated by 'microbial attack' so recommended bleach washing was carried out by the yard before blacking.
Aft swim sacrificial chime (the bit of base plate around the edge which protrudes to protect the weld) warn down to o.5mm in places so further recommendation was a new 2inch 2 meter long protective buffer welded on at the back when next slipped and blacked. Price reduced to reflect accordingly.
The rudder/tiller is bent slightly out of alignment but she steers fine. Survey suggests engine slightly out of alignment and stern tube may be warn, recommends its removed and checked. Currently works fine, just something to keep an eye on. I will repack the stern gland before sale.
Inside she's kitted out specifically for long term continuous cruising with: built in compost toilet (essential for living in busy areas with few elsan points), massive water tank (built into unusual shape of bow), solar panel to charge batteries with best MPPT charge controller, 4 brand new leisure batteries, back boiler to large radiator in bedroom to circulate heat around the boat and option for back boiler to calorifier connection, also has engine heated hot water and a morco instant gas heater.
I have just finished re-painting her inside with fresh matte white and added beautiful oak trim. She looks ace.
Also laid a new engineered wood floor throughout in summer 2019.
Izuzu engine. Twin alternators, Auto bilge pump. 2500w mastervolt inverter charger.
Exterior has been coated with primer - we took the old paint job back to a smooth durable finish with about a week of power sanding before applying the primer. Would just need keying back and painting with your choice of top coat.
Roof finished with 2 coats of hardwearing grey metal paint.
There is still work to be done, but I would say all the big/hard/expensive jobs are done and she is all ready to move onto!
Currently moored in Standstead Abbots. Hertfordshire.
