Nightingale was previously operated as a hire boat in the Napton Narrowboats fleet, one of Britain’s premier hire companies, so will have been consistently maintained, including a replacement engine in 1999, before her retirement in 2008, when she passed into private ownership with engine servicing carried on at regular intervals. On entering her cabin, adjectives like cosy and homely spring to mind, traditional rose and castle panels contrast nicely with the soft furnishings. Whilst not featuring all the latest modern equipment and technology, she has everything on board, except your personal belongings to just untie the ropes, start the engine and set off on your new adventure. The internal fitout is by well known and respected Stephen Goldsbrough, who has created an interior using hard-wearing, chunky materials with nice little touches such as the Boatmans cabin style drop-down table for mealtimes. Heating is provided by a near silent running, gas fired, Alde boiler supplying panel radiators, but it could be possible to fit a solid fuel stove if required and the electrical system could be upgraded by fitting a ring main, inverter/charger and associated protection.
